CHILDREN
paintings of people in the early stages of life
The BOY series starts by referencing a photograph. Americans recognize it as a yearbook photo, arranged in predictable rows. Each painting alters subtly, then more dramatically, revealing various personae and shifts in emotion. Eventually, the face distorts into abstraction, offering alternative visual experiences with more obscured narratives. The work can be approached as a meditation on boyhood, or as a contemplation of various approaches to painting.
